I love to eat. In fact, most of my fondest memories revolved around food, birthday parties with the sweetest and luscious cakes, Hawaiian themed barbecue parties, and decadent buffet dinners. However, there are times when I feel the effects of overeating on my health. There are times when I would feel slow and sluggish even after eating a full meal. I consulted one of my friends who is in the health profession regarding this issue (over a tall glass of iced tea and a nice bowl of salad).

She asked about my dietary preference. Do I eat more meat than fruits and vegetables? Do I watch what I eat or gobble down anything that is set before me? I’m not a picky eater or an impulsive glutton. I consider myself somewhere in between. However, I do prefer meats to fruits and vegetables. Could it be my cholesterol levels? Although I do not have any serious illnesses at the moment, I do have a history of hypertension and is a little bit above my ideal weight. Okay, okay, way above my ideal weight. That’s when she suggested that I test my cholesterol levels.

Unfortunately, the test gave worrying results. My cholesterol levels are above the normal levels. That’s when I started taking cholesterol formulas. However, some of the medications have worrying side effects. I decided to look around for natural remedies and I came across Hypercet Cholesterol formula.

I was done with taking medications which I don’t understand. Luckily, there are helpful reviews online regarding Hypercet Cholesterol formula. Hypercet Cholesterol formula is mainly consists of naturally occurring minerals such as calcium, magnesium, chromium and Beta 1 3d glucan. I found that these ingredients have positive effects on my body. After a few weeks of taking the product, I felt more energized. I also had my medical check-up to confirm what I was feeling. The results show that my blood pressure, sugar levels and cholesterol levels are within the healthy range.

Taking Hypercet Cholesterol formula had really changed my life and my lifestyle. I have started eating well and living well. Now I only have to start losing weight and I have a good feeling that I am on the correct first step.

Due to its adverse effects in the body, cholesterol has been considered as one of the major obstacle for a healthy life. Yet, cholesterol is hard to avoid or eradicate. In fact, cholesterol is an essential substance in the body and is vital for tissue and cell development. In order to maintain a healthy life, one must understand how cholesterol contributes to our body functions.

Cholesterol is naturally produced from the body and can be absorbed from cholesterol rich food such as beef, pork and poultry. There are two main types, the LDL and HDL. In order for our body to function, LDL and HDL should be kept within normal range. However, due to the rise of fast food chains, easy to cook meals and microwavable dishes which are mainly meat products, our diets have mainly consisted of cholesterol rich food rather than a nutrient rich balanced diet. Hence, health problems arising due to cholesterol imbalance is common. What can a cholesterol formula do for you?

A cholesterol formula such as Hypercet understands that cholesterol should be maintained within normal range rather than completely eradicated. Hypercet Cholesterol Formula is made from natural minerals and nutrients which aids body function and promotes nutrient absorption. This cholesterol formula’s active ingredients are calcium, magnesium, chromium and Beta 1 3d glucans. These minerals aid in vital body functions and promote cardiovascular and muscular development.

However, like most medication and natural health supplement in the market, Hypercet Cholesterol Formula can only do so much. It is up to the individual to maintain a disciplined, well-balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

After hearing Hypercet Cholesterol Formula from a friend, I decided to review the product and see if the hype is real. I also have my share of bouts with hypertension, high sugar levels and cholesterol levels and is currently looking for a product that is safe and effective. My friend assured me that Hypercet Cholesterol Formula is 100% safe and all natural. Since I’m not persuaded easily I decided to do a little bit of investigating.

THE BAD:

I like knowing what I take in. Even if I am not totally familiar with all the medicines in my bathroom cabinet I at least know and understand their most active ingredients, the side effects and the role it should do in my body. I was disappointed with the website. I expected the company to present informative articles regarding their cholesterol formula. The website only has a few paragraphs regarding the product and the ingredients. The specific function of the active ingredients and how it contributes to the body was sorely lacking. Furthermore, the active ingredients such as calcium, chromium, magnesium and Beta 1, 3d glucan are also present in other food supplements. The website does not elaborate on what makes these ingredients unique when it comes to regulating cholesterol levels.

THE GOOD:

What I do like about Hypercet Cholesterol Formula is that it dispels the common misunderstanding regarding cholesterol. It emphasized that cholesterol is a natural occurring substance in the body and is essential for body function. However, as we ingest cholesterol rich food such as meat and poultry products, our cholesterol level increases which results in abnormal health conditions. Hypercet Cholesterol Formula’s natural ingredients aid the body in regulating cholesterol within normal range. It helps in mineral and vitamins and absorption and other vital body functions. Instead of eradicating cholesterol, it aims to promote normal levels of all the essential nutrients in the body, thereby promoting a holistic, healthy well being.

THE RESULT:

My friend and I both benefit from the product. We have started to eat well and live well. Although, admittedly, it would take some time before I fall into a disciplined, healthy lifestyle. This product, however, has remarkably improved my cholesterol level and has definitely set me in the right path.

Heart disease is a killer, and one of the main contributing factors to heart disease is high cholesterol. While prescription medications are available to lower cholesterol, it is advisable, given their adverse side effects, to learn to lower cholesterol naturally, using natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs.

With this in mind, let’s look at what natural cholesterol lowering foods or herbs are available, that can lower cholesterol effectively:

Oat bran, Oatmeal and High Fibre Foods
Oatmeal contains soluble fibre, which is proven to lower cholesterol. Eating cereals made with oatmeal or oat bran will prove very beneficial in lowering cholesterol levels. Soluble fibre can also be found in apples, pears, barley, to name but a few.

Olive Oil
Olive oil contains antioxidants that can lower bad cholesterol and does not interfere with good cholesterol. Recommend use is 2 tablespoons per day to stay heart healthy.

Walnuts, Almonds and Other Nuts

Fish Rich in Omega 3 Fatty Acids
Eating oily fish such as mackerel, salmon, trout, herring, sardines etc., which contain high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids, can reduce your risk of clots and blood pressure. If you do not like fish, you can get lower levels of Omega 3 from canola oil or flaxseed. You can also take a quality fish oil supplement.

Plant Sterol or Stanols
These are substances found in plants that help block the absorption of cholesterol. Beta-sitosterol has been proven to prevent cholesterol absorption by as much as 50%, lowering blood cholesterol levels.

Lecithin

In a time when the big pharmaceutical companies are spending lots and lots of money to reach us in every conceivable way to convince us that the only way to lower our potentially harmful cholesterol levels is to ask our doctors for their specific drug we have lost sight that there are natural ways to lower cholesterol by eating cholesterol lowering foods.

Foods that have high amounts of fiber work very well to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. A few are:

Barley

Apples

Prunes

Oat Bran

Other cholesterol lowering foods are those that contain Sterol and, Stanol. These are substances that occur naturally in many different plants including:

Fruits

Nuts

Vegetables

They work by preventing the body from absorbing the LDL cholesterol before it is delivered to the liver and then eliminated.

Both saturated and trans fats should also be removed from your diet as much as possible as they too will raise cholesterol levels.

Replace these bad fats with monounsaturated fats like are found in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and also canola oil. Other sources of monounsaturated fats are:

Nuts from Trees

Avocados

Peanuts

As beneficial all of these cholesterol lowering foods are there is an additional substance that is key in reducing cholesterol and that is omega-3 fatty acids. Key in reducing LDL levels, science is discovering that omega-3 has many other benefits including:

Probable anti cancer properties, especially prostate, colon and breast cancers

Reduction in the rate of occurrence of Cardiovascular disease

Probable increase in immune function

Omega-3 is traditionally found in fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, and anchovies and has proven itself to be so beneficial that the American Heart Association recommends two servings of grilled or baked fatty fish a week.

Omega-3 can also be found from certain botanical sources such as chia and flax seed which is very beneficial to anyone who does not like the taste of fish or is concerned about toxic contamination such as mercury or hydro carbons.

The finest botanical source of omega-3 is Mila refined chia seed which, besides providing more omega-3 fatty acid than either farm or wild salmon also supplies additional nutrients such as Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Selenium, and anti-oxidants

Please visit Mila Healthy Living.com for more details about this amazing seed.

If you’ve just found out that your cholesterol levels are too high and need to come down, you basically have a choice of two paths to take. The first path involves cholesterol lowering foods that have been proven effective and will improve your health far beyond that of your cardiovascular system.

The second path is to use chemicals that have been produced in the laboratory to reduce cholesterol levels. Taking cholesterol medication comes with many potential side effects including muscle, kidney and liver damage. As many as 25% of individuals who use statin medication experience muscle aches and twitching.

It seems to me that the clear choice is using food for high cholesterol and leaving medication as a last resort. Cholesterol lowering foods are those which contain high amounts of fiber and plant sterols such as what is found in most vegetables. Brussels sprouts, spinach and broccoli are some of the best foods that combine high fiber content with a high level of plant sterols.

Sterols are natural substances that are found in all plants and have been proven to block the absorption of cholesterol into the body. This is due to the fact that plant sterols have a very similar molecular makeup to that of cholesterol. Scientists believe that the sterols actually compete with cholesterol for absorption, thereby preventing the absorption of much of the cholesterol found in the foods we eat.

Now don’t get the idea that this is a license for eating a high cholesterol foods. The most effective diet for lowering cholesterol will be one that contains reduced amounts of saturated fats combined with high fiber foods. In addition to vegetables, fruit, nuts and whole grains contain substantial amounts of fiber.

A bowl of oatmeal that has crushed walnuts mixed in is a great food for high cholesterol. Other sample diet for lowering cholesterol ideas include adding as much spinach and other vegetables as possible to the sandwiches you eat.

A wonderful cholesterol reducing dinner that I enjoy is salmon served over a bed of spinach. The combination of fiber and sterols found in the spinach added to the omega-3 fatty acids supplied by the salmon is extremely beneficial.

If you are worried about or have been diagnosed with high cholesterol the first thing you will need to do is make some changes to your diet. What may come as a surprise is what doctors and nutritionists are recommending when it comes to lowering your cholesterol through diet. Medical research has shown that just because a food is high in cholesterol it does not necessarily translate to high blood cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found only in animal food products that include red meat, fish, eggs, poultry, and dairy products. Foods from plant sources do not contain cholesterol although there are plants such as avocados that contain large amounts of fat. This is where many people make the mistake of thinking that if they cut back on or avoid animal food products they can reduce their cholesterol levels.

What you need to understand is that eating saturated fat has a far greater influence on blood cholesterol levels, particularly the bad low density lipoproteins (LDL). LDL levels rise two percent for every one percent rise in caloric intake provided by saturated fats. This also works the other way with a two percent decrease in LDL levels when you decrease your intake of saturated fats one percent.

Doctors and medical researchers now know that it is far more important to reduce saturated fat intake then it is to avoid high cholesterol foods when it comes lowering blood LDL levels. But eating high cholesterol foods should still be done in moderation because it can still affect your cardiovascular health.

The way we prepare and serve foods is one of the reasons for the confusion around how they can raise LDL cholesterol. If we look at the standard bacon and egg breakfast we can see what happens. Eggs have gotten a bad reputation because of their high cholesterol content but if you eat just an egg it has little effect on your blood levels. Add some bacon or sausage to the picture, which both are high in saturated fat, and your LDL levels will begin to rise.

One of the worst culprits in the fight against high LDL cholesterol is deep fried fatty foods. Again, the foods themselves are relatively harmless until you breaded and lowered into that vat of hot oil. Some foods, such as fish, are beneficial to our health because they contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are shown to reduce LDL levels. Those benefits are lost when they are deep fried when they are deep fried, raising their saturated fat level.

There are many high cholesterol foods to avoid but doing so may not have the desired affect if you do not cut back on your intake saturated fat. It can have a far more detrimental effect on blood cholesterol levels then many people once thought.

For those who suffer from high cholesterol the best and first way to control and lower their cholesterol levels is through their diet. But many people are confused as to what constitutes a high cholesterol food they need to avoid and a low cholesterol food. This is because there is a difference between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol.

Generally most health guidelines recommend that dietary cholesterol not exceed 300 mg per day for most healthy people, but if one suffers from high LDL blood cholesterol levels then this intake should be not more than 200 mg per day.

Cholesterol, a waxy like substance, is only found in animal meat and tissues and its sources include red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, and dairy products. On the flip side any food derived from plant sources is cholesterol free, including high fat plants food sources such as avocado’s and peanut butter. This is where the confusion usually happens because eating large amounts of vegetable oil, which is virtually 100% food fat, can significantly raise blood cholesterol levels, particularly when eaten with high cholesterol foods.

The fact is that blood LDL cholesterol levels are highly influenced by the amount of saturated fat that one eats. There is a relationship between the amounts of saturated fat one eats the LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. For every one percent increase in calories obtained by eating saturated fat, blood cholesterol levels go up around two percent. Conversely for every one percent decrease in saturated fat intake cholesterol levels will reduce about two percent.

The thing to remember when it comes avoiding high cholesterol foods is that while doing so will decrease LDL cholesterol levels, reducing saturated fat intake has a bigger impact on these levels then many people are aware of. This does not mean that those who suffer from high cholesterol can eat high cholesterol foods, but they should be aware that there is more to reducing cholesterol then just this one thing.

The reason for this confusion with the way cholesterol can increase in the blood stream is the way many foods are cooked and/or served. Let’s look at one of everyone’s favorite breakfasts; bacon/sausage and eggs. We all know that eggs are high in cholesterol, but what we don’t know is that the cholesterol in eggs has a small impact on blood cholesterol levels. It’s the high amount of saturated fat in the bacon or sausage that has a far larger impact on LDL cholesterol levels.

Another culprit is deep fat fried foods. Many foods are for the most part harmless until they are breaded and fried in hot oil. In fact, many fish and seafood choices are considered to be good for us because of the omega-3 fatty acids that they contain, but as soon as they are deep fried and eaten any benefits are cancelled by the saturated fat that raises bad LDL cholesterol.

When it comes to high cholesterol foods to avoid it is important to remember that these types of food aren’t necessarily bad in and of themselves if eaten in moderation. The real problem occurs when they are combined with high levels of saturated fat, which has a more profound effect on blood cholesterol levels.

There’s a simple way to tell if what you’ve eaten are the low cholesterol foods to enjoy or the high cholesterol foods to avoid in your diet. Essentially, your body will feel rather slow and heavy, since most of its energy is concentrated on digesting that fatty food. There’s that “round” and “full” feeling in your mouth while you’re eating it and then you get that irrepressible urge to burp afterward.

It’s safe to say that if you like it, it’s most likely on the list of high cholesterol foods to avoid. Macaroni and cheese? Check. Fried chicken with biscuits and gravy? Double check. Chocolate cake a la mode? Do you really need to ask? What’s similar in all these foods is the heavy use of animal products and animal fats. These animal products are also high in saturated fats and trans-fats, which adversely affect your cholesterol count.

Butter is one of the top five on the list of high cholesterol foods to avoid especially since it tastes so good, it’s hard to be satisfied with just a little. Yet, don’t be fooled with margarine, which is now part of the list because of its content of highly saturated fats and trans-fats.

While plant-based foods are among the healthiest you can eat, it doesn’t mean that all of it is safe. After all, a breaded, battered, deep-fried piece of tofu “chicken” would have to same amount of fat as a southern style, deep-fried chicken breast, right? Reading labels is the most important thing these days since “zero cholesterol” doesn’t necessarily mean “zero saturated fat.”

And unfortunately, the perfect companion to high cholesterol foods to avoid would be that icy cold glass of soda or that perfectly frosted bottle of beer. What are French fries without coke? Or pizza without beer? The acid, carbonation, and alcohol is what the gut uses to cut the oil coating it but no amount of scientific study is going to beat the excuse that they just taste so darn good together.

After all, there are some types of food vegetarians have to watch out for too. To know how to lower triglycerides means that it’s just important to take more raw fruits and veggies when you are eating high cholesterol foods. Try topping your pizza with salad, for example. Or replace chips with raw vegetables when you’re enjoying that nacho cheese dip. If you’re smart with your choices, you can have your angel food cake and eat it, too. As you see, it’s not necessary to become a vegetarian in order to comply with the list of high cholesterol foods to avoid.

Learning the basic cholesterol guidelines is the first step in reducing your risk for heart attack or stroke. And if you don’t know anything about cholesterol guidelines or blood lipid readings you are not alone. In fact once you get past the term cholesterol, most haven’t had cause to delve deeper into the world of cholesterol and cholesterol health.

Cholesterol itself is a Jeckel and Hide type of character. On one hand it is essential for hormone production and cell health and on the other hand it can cause life threatening conditions such as heart attack and stroke. In fact, the higher your blood cholesterol level, the greater your chance of developing heart disease or having a heart attack. It is also important to point out that as we age our cholesterol reading tend to become less predictable, often times seeing overall cholesterol rise while good cholesterol (HDL) decreases. This could partly explain why the majority of the one million heart attacks last year, and the half million fatalities, were people over the age of 50.

The unpredictability of cholesterol makes testing a necessary part of management. Knowing the basic cholesterol guidelines is also an important part of understanding whether you are at risk or not. According to American Heart Association everyone over the age of 20 should have a detailed blood test called a lipoprotein profile performed at least once every five years. If your test results showed cholesterol levels on the rise your doctor will likely suggest a number of diet and lifestyle adjustments with another lipid profile being scheduled in four to six months. It lifestyle an diet modification fail to show the expected results your doctor may suggest a cholesterol lowering medication to bring cholesterol readings into a healthy range. While effective, keep in mind that prescription medications come with a long list of side effects with the most common being nagging muscle aches, pains, and cramping.

Basic cholesterol guidelines

* Overall total cholesterol: Less than 200 mg/dl is optimal, 200 – 239 if borderline high, and anything over 240 is considered high and requires some type of immediate action.

* Good cholesterol (HDL): Good cholesterol consists of high density lipoprotein particles which are high in protein and low in fat. They take cholesterol out of the body and help clear existing arterial plaque. Many consider this to be the most important of all the cholesterol scores. A reading over 60 is considered optimal, 50 – 60 good, 40 – 50 borderline, and anything under 40 will require some type of immediate action.

* Bad cholesterol (LDL): Bad cholesterol is primary a fatty molecule that carries cholesterol into your arteries and roughs up the artery walls. This combination provides the backdrop for dangerous arterial plaque deposits. It only makes good health sense to reduce and maintain this part of your cholesterol scores into a heart healthy range. Less than 100 is considered very good, 100 – 129 is above average, 130 – 159 is borderline high, 160 – 189 is high, and anything over 190 is considered dangerous and will require immediate action.

* Triglycerides: Triglycerides are early stage fat molecules and are considered to be a serious threat. A reading of under 150 is considered good, 150 – 199 borderline high, and anything over 200 is considered dangerous and my require immediate action.

In summary, your cholesterol guidelines are your road map to heart and artery health. Additionally, many have found they need a little extra boost to achieve their goals but are leery of the latest batch of prescription medications. For these individuals natural cholesterol reducing supplements are a safe and effective natural option worth considering.
